I appreciate beauty and excellence. I see beauty and appreciate things done with excellence. I admire art and science in nature, music, movies, literature and jobs done right.
I was born at home in Detroit Michigan. We moved to Houston in 1960 and I am a Houstonian and an enthusiastic Texan.
I am a dyed in the wool general contractor. At Oxford we do everything we can to make it a successful project for our customers. The project always comes first.
I went through the carpenter’s apprenticeship program and became a carpenter in 1973. I had plenty of opportunities to become a foreman but I did not take them because I really want to learn my trade by practicing first.
I worked and fought my way up the ladder and that was very hard because of my last name. I was a foreman, general foreman and then superintendent. I really loved being a superintendent because of the immediate influence and the satisfaction of building my projects.
After a very successful Hines Project I fought my way into the office and got a job as a Project Manager. Actually I worked my way in to the office. I did this on my own; my idea and on my free time. I came in to the office three days a week after work and helped my project manager with paperwork. It took me a year and a half to get them so use to my help that I became indispensable to the Project Manager. But I also learned about the paper work and the job of project management.
I ran several jobs as a project manager and was able to make money on the projects because it was my focus.
After I finished I moved on to Williams Industry a volume company here in Houston. We were a low bid contractor and my job was to get in and get out. At the end of a project at MD Anderson (I had health care experience) I could not find anyone to install my doors. I felt I was taken advantage of and being over charged for the work.
I said “I can do that” and I started Oxford Builders.
We hang doors and a whole lot more.
